Circle line is closed again.
From the shopping department, I found Sainsbury’s! it is located right next to the hotel which is why I previously couldn’t find it, I was looking for it in Westminster and the hotel is on Gloucester Road. (Map.)
A Major hats-off to Clara for pointing out Sainsbury’s “basic” line of budget items, I managed to shop for enough food for a day or two for less than £4.
Today was an enjoyable yet exhausting trip to Bath and Stonehenge.
Stonehenge, (all photos of Stonehenge) is very beautiful and notably has a number of ravens as well as the original starling.
It is also clearly rigged out as a tourist trap with grossly farcical brochures trumpeting the stones as having come from “mystic” quarries… Stop.
I did manage to get a nice picture of myself there.
Ye Olde English Money Sucker Upper Shoppe, better known as the gift shop did not initially seem to be very promising, including such vacuities as “Sheep’s Droppings delicious chocolate treats” I did however finally extract a tasteful black muffler which I am fully enjoying and which goes stupendously well with my other clothes.
We then proceeded to Bath. After touring the baths I went to Marks and Spencer and started to look for hats. I did finally find the hats, near a section of jackets that looked as if they had not been completed.
I am quite sure no one has ever bought a hat there, M&S seems to have, not just a proclivity towards, but a total fixation upon hats that can only be described as the fashion equivalent of a disaster. If you want to look like an “ugly American” buy and wear a hat from Marks and Spencer.
I also visited “BHS” which advertises with the slogan “modern life made easy.” Easy apparently does not include selling hats whatsoever.
The most interesting thing I noticed about both is that they have eateries. It seems that British department stores still follow this practice, which seems archaic in the United States. The last U.S. department store I ever heard of having an eatery in it was McCurdy’s, which became a Bon-Ton when I was three (and ceased to have an eatery sometime before that if I remember correctly).
Bath itself is highly beautiful, this being unfortunatly the result of a fascist (yes) municipal government which has essentially declared that virtually all buildings must be identical, and previously even specified when people could take baths and go to church. Almost all buildings are made out of a beautiful honey colored indigenous limestone.
Bath has “Ye Olde Englande” down pat; especially since it is all done in the best possible taste.
Oh, and for the record “irregardless” is not a word. It is also a logical impossibility because the prefix “ir-” and suffix “-less” do not agree with each other and in effect constitute an internal double-negative. This set of syllables is highly illiterate and should not be used, period, thank you.
There has been a terrific tizzy (well, that’s not precisely a word but…) locally over two things. One, Brittany Spears has been “Take to an asylum” according to (exaggerated) accounts of meretricious London Tabloids. Two, the finance and colleague of a children’s TV program star, Mark Speight has died in his residence and the use of “unidentified” substances is claimed (the latter seemingly an invention of the press). It is now presumed that Mr Speight murdered his finance and co-presenter.
All valid news has been swept out of the papers and off the air by these events with Sky News running rolling coverage of the Brittany Spears incident for about forty eight hours.
I have also changed this sites slogan to “Steel and Topaz” the preceding slogan was “Normal is Overrated.” The words are derived from a literary fantasia I wrote some weeks back.
Oh, and don’t forget to see all photos.

John,
When were the baths last changed of water? During the Roman empire? All that algae is disgusting.
And is sheep droppings at type of candy? That is extremely strange. Oh, and in the photos, what is the place with the hole in the ceiling? And I accidentally deleted the email about how to get a picture as a desktop background-could you, if you have time, send me another? Thanks!
